Published Nonclinical Research Context

The following summaries describe published laboratory findings involving the peptide identified as Prostamax (reported as the tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Pro in the literature).

Chromatin Structure in Cultured Cells from Elderly Donors

In an in vitro study using cells obtained from elderly donors (aged 75-86), exposure to the oligopeptide bioregulator identified as Prostamax was associated with increased frequency of sister chromatid exchanges and increased frequency of Ag-positive nucleolar organizer regions per cell relative to untreated controls. A reduction in the frequency of large pericentromeric heterochromatin segments on chromosomes 1 and 9 was also observed. The authors interpreted these changes as indicative of chromatin structural reorganization [Dzhokhadze et al., 2012].

Organotypic Tissue Culture Explants

In an ex vivo organotypic tissue culture model, explants from multiple rat organs (including prostatic gland tissue) were exposed to several synthetic bioregulatory peptides, including Prostamax. In prostatic gland explants, Prostamax was reported to elicit a response compared to untreated controls, with the authors noting tissue-specific responses across different peptide-tissue pairings [Zakutskiĭ et al., 2006].
